Is there someone, specific, you had in mind to plumb in the water lines or is this a T&M task? We need to assign a name to insure that the work will be done in a timely matter. A few other minor things surfaced: 1. No task # for installing the TAB/GAB, Control, or Readout crate. Assuming they can be moved within the time frame (1wk) of the ADF crates. 2. Item 1.5.7.3.2.6: Remove rack infrastructure from Sidewalk Racks This was defined as RMI, drip detection, Pulizzi, blowers, 1553, heat exchangers, smoke detectors... Since we don't have water on the sidewalk, the drip, blowers, and exchangers will not be moved. Do we have the required units in house? The Pulizzi units are stacked on a table on the sidewalk..they just need installed. This task reduces down to removing 2-3 smoke detectors and a couple RMIs which I think we actually have spares on a shelf?? Should we remove this task or change it to Prepare components, cabling.... My presumption was that electrical support techs would coordinate with Russ's group during the installation to connect the requisite hoses from the existing taps in the manifolds under the MCH floor to the new cooling. A previous inspection shows sufficient connections for what we need so there's no real 'plumbing' to do. New water flow control solenoids will be needed as well, but this is just a matter of having Pete order some within the next couple of months. > We need to assign a name to insure that the work will be done in a timely > matter. John Foglesong will be in charge of all technician crews performing both the removal and new installations in MCH1. Should he choose to take the voluntary separation plan, Tim Martin will then be in charge. It has been my assumption from long ago that none of the safety equipment from the sidewalk will be disturbed in any way by the installation in MCH1. I make this assumption because it is my belief that when push comes to shove experiment groups will demand that both MCH1 and the sidewalk be in full operational condition - including unattended use - for a significant period of time AFTER MCH1 is installed. Therefore, the MCH1 installation will use ALL NEW safety gear and, in the fullness of time, the items from the sidewalk installation will be reclaimed. In short, I expect it to become this year's version of the "5K test stand" - a "temporary" installation that never goes out of use. We have plenty of RMI spares. The RMs in MCH1 will be left in place and reused. Additional smoke detectors are a trivial cost addition. ***************************************************************************** Date: Sat, 9 Apr 2005 04:25:06 -0500 (CDT) From: Alan L. Stone Subject: Re: Installation briefing Regarding John's reply on the safety, cooling and power, sounds good to me, except: Are you sure we can use the same Rack Monitors? I would like to babble a little more, and I've added some other people to this email exchange. I must admit that I never foresaw having a quasi-permanent sidewalk test stand. At one point, I was pursuing the plan of building the new racks on the sidewalk - which we would roll into MCH1 after ripping out the old ones. The existing routing of the trigger cables - along the front exterior of the racks - and some good logic from John convinced me of the merits of the current plan. Back to the sidewalk - in order for the sidewalk test stand to have any use for continued testing and debugging after the installation of the upgrade this fall, we would need to have spare crates - ADF, TAB/GAB, Readout and Communications. In addition, some very specific cards are needed - SCLD, VME/SCL, VME Master/Slave, Bit3, VRBC, SBC - in addition to whatever ADF or TAB/GAB we want to test. In other words, the existing vertical slice. Will (can?) MSU and Columbia leave a spare ADF and TAB/GAB crate here at Fermilab? Are the readout and communications crates on the sidewalk test stand THE crates to be used in MCH1 in the fall? Is it too late to plan on having this vertical slice available for 6-12 months (longer?) until we have worked out all the kinks in the firmware? Alan
